What is the Irrigreen smart sprinkler system?

Irrigreen is a complete smart in-ground irrigation system that uses digital technology to water your lawn with precision. Instead of traditional fixed-arc spray heads that waste water through overspray and runoff, each Irrigreen head rotates 360 degrees and digitally maps the exact shape of your lawn — delivering water only where grass actually grows. The system is controlled through a smartphone app and adjusts automatically based on real-time local weather data. The result is up to 50% less water used per season compared to a traditional sprinkler system, with equal or better lawn coverage.

How is Irrigreen different from a traditional sprinkler system?

Traditional sprinkler systems rely on multiple fixed-spray heads arranged in overlapping patterns to cover a lawn. This approach wastes 40 to 60 percent of the water used through overspray onto driveways, sidewalks, and fence lines, runoff from oversaturation, and evaporation. Irrigreen uses a single digital head per zone that covers up to 2,800 square feet and sprays only where you tell it to — no overlap, no waste. Most yards that required 20 to 40 traditional heads need only 3 to 8 Irrigreen heads, which means significantly less pipe underground, faster installation, and far fewer components that can break or need replacing.

How many Irrigreen heads does my yard need?

Most average-sized Front Range residential yards — between 5,000 and 10,000 square feet — need between 3 and 8 Irrigreen heads. Each head covers up to 2,800 square feet. Larger properties or those with complex shapes may need more. We provide a complimentary remote estimate that includes a custom system design mapped to your specific property so you know exactly how many heads you need before committing to anything.

Does the Irrigreen system work with Colorado's twice-a-week watering restrictions?

Yes — and it was built for exactly this situation. Irrigreen uses a technique called cycle and soak, which delivers water in shorter repeated passes that allow the soil to absorb each round before the next begins. This mimics natural rainfall, prevents runoff, and ensures your lawn receives deep even coverage within a two-day watering window. Traditional systems struggle to deliver adequate hydration on a twice-a-week schedule without overwatering or causing runoff. Irrigreen thrives under those same conditions.

Will the Irrigreen system help me avoid Denver Water's drought surcharges?

Yes. Denver Water's 2026 drought surcharges apply to outdoor water use above your indoor baseline, with higher-use households paying significantly more per gallon. Because Irrigreen uses up to 50% less water than a traditional system, most homeowners who switch will use far less outdoor water — staying in the lower surcharge tier or avoiding surcharges almost entirely. Homeowners typically save $300 to $600 per year on water bills under normal conditions. In 2026 with drought surcharges in effect, those savings are likely to be even greater.

Does the Irrigreen system work with drip irrigation for garden beds?

Yes. The Irrigreen controller supports up to 16 Irrigreen smart heads plus up to 8 traditional valve zones. This means you can run your Irrigreen lawn heads and your existing drip zones for garden beds, trees, and shrubs all from one controller and one app.

What app does the Irrigreen system use?

The Irrigreen Smart App, available on iOS and Android. After installation, the app is used to map your lawn, customize spray zones, set watering schedules, and monitor water usage. The app also connects to real-time local weather data and adjusts your watering schedule automatically — pausing when it rains and adapting to temperature changes.

What happens if my Wi-Fi goes down?

The Irrigreen system requires Wi-Fi for full app functionality. However, if your internet goes down, the system continues to run based on its last saved schedule. You may lose app control and remote access temporarily, but your lawn will continue to be watered.

Does the Irrigreen system come with a warranty?

Yes. All Irrigreen sprinkler heads, controllers, cables, and components are covered by a 2-year manufacturer warranty. HLI also warranties their labor for 2 years. An extended warranty option is also available for additional coverage beyond the standard term. Ask us about warranty options when you request your estimate.

How long does it take for an Irrigreen system to pay for itself?

Most homeowners see their Irrigreen system pay for itself within 3 to 5 years through water bill savings alone. With annual savings typically between $300 and $600, and total system costs ranging from $3,500 to $7,500 fully installed, the math works out favorably — especially in Colorado in 2026 where drought surcharges are compounding the savings even further. Reduced maintenance costs compared to traditional systems shorten the payback period further.

About Installation & Maintenance

When is the best time to install an Irrigreen system in Colorado?

The irrigation season on the Front Range typically runs from April through October. The best time to install is early in the season — April through June — before our schedule fills up and before peak summer heat arrives. With Denver Water's 2026 drought restrictions already in effect, installing now means you go into the hottest months of the year with a system optimized for restricted watering.

Do I need to do anything to prepare for installation?

Not much. Our team handles the full installation including trenching, piping, head placement, controller mounting, and app setup. We recommend having your water system accessible and knowing the location of your main water shutoff. We'll walk you through everything else during the estimate process.

What is a backflow preventer and do I need one?

A backflow preventer is a device that stops irrigation water from flowing back into your home's drinking water supply. Many Colorado counties require one by code for any in-ground irrigation system. If your property doesn't already have one, we'll include it in your installation. The cost typically runs $300 to $600 depending on your setup.

Do you offer spring startup and fall winterization services?

Yes. We offer spring system startup, mid-season checkups, and fall winterization as standalone services and as part of our Peace of Mind Maintenance Package. See our Services page for full pricing details. We recommend booking seasonal services in advance as our schedule fills quickly.

What happens to my system in winter?

Irrigreen systems need to be properly winterized before the first hard freeze to prevent damage to pipes, heads, and connections. Our fall winterization service uses compressed air to blow all remaining water out of the system. This is essential in Colorado's climate and we strongly recommend scheduling it every year before temperatures drop below freezing.
